Greek Oregano is a perennial plant and its quality is considered one of the best in the world. Over the characteristic aroma and flavor that gives to food has many medicinal properties, with its main active ingredient carvacrol. In Greece oregano is native and is found in mountainous and rocky areas.
Use: It is used as a spice mainly in cooking, giving excellent taste and wonderful aroma to meat, fish and salads, but also as a decoction, which is mentioned as having excellent results against cough. It is the main spice of the Mediterranean countries and one of the basic ingredients of Greek and Italian cuisine. In the form of decoctions used for intestinal atony, expectorant for cough helps with hypertension and atherosclerosis. Oregano essential oil (oregano oil) is used for toothache.
Characteristics:

Preparation:
Decoction: Boil a small spoonful of oregano in 250 ml of water for a few minutes. Strain it and drink it hot with honey.
Infusion: In a cup of boiling water pour 1 kg of oregano, cover and leave for 10-15 minutes. Strain it and drink it, preferably hot.
For the bath: We pour a decoction of oregano in the bathwater, to soothe and tone our skin. (Boil for a few minutes, 80-100 g of oregano in 1 liter of water).
Properties:
The ancient Greeks knew its therapeutic value and used it while drinking its tea for colic and external swelling. It is antidiarrheal, anti-inflammatory, bactericidal. Oregano has 12 times more antioxidant activity than orange, 30 than potato and 42 than apple. Another major use is against chronic rheumatism.
